Bridal Outlet's Guide to Wedding Dress Malfunctions & Prevention
Planning for wedding dress malfunctions may sound like overkill, but trust us, if disaster strikes on your wedding day, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Wardrobe woes may be the last thing you want to think about, but they do happen and it helps to be prepared so you can have peace of mind.
In this post, we share the 3 most common sample wedding dress malfunctions and how to quickly fix them.
Makeup Stains Your Dress
All it takes is one kiss from a loved one and your crisp white sample gown is smeared with lipstick or foundation.
Whether it’s makeup, cake, grass, or dirt, stains happen, and when you’re wearing white, it’s difficult to hide them.
Luckily, makeup stains are an easier fix if you’re prepared. One of the most convenient ways to treat stains in a time crunch is to have stain remover wipes on hand. We recommend wipes made for luxury materials, such as Silk and Clean Stain Remover Wipes for Silk.
One thing to keep in mind; before using the wipe directly on the dress, make sure to test it out on a small, hidden spot on the dress (i.e. the hem) to make sure it will fix the damage rather than add to it.
The Dress Hem Falls Down
You can expect a lot of movement on your wedding day starting with the march down the aisle to some possible funky moves at the reception.
Regardless of how you get down on your big day, the chances of a fallen hem are slim..but never impossible! Actually, a runaway hem is one of the more common malfunctions, but also way simpler to fix than expected.
If you find yourself with a drooping hem, temporary hem tape is a magic fix with no stitching required. Temporary hem tape is a double-stick tape, made especially for fabric. It’s great because it does not require ironing and can easily be placed and removed.
The Zipper Gets Stuck
A zipper that won’t budge can be frustrating to deal with, especially if you are moments away from walking down the aisle. You want to yank and pull, but you also don’t want to risk tearing the fabric.
In the case of a locked zipper, the first thing you want to do is take a deep breath. Check to make sure that the zipper is lined up and not in the way of any fabric.
If this doesn’t shake it loose, it helps to have zipper lubricant on hand. As you can probably imagine, zipper lube is applied to the zipper and gives it the grease it needs to slide effortlessly without friction.
